Moving the Wiki
Hi, guys. I know it's been a while. This wiki went from a month of almost endless activity to a month of... well, nothing. I've been silently watching this place... Seeing if it will pick itself back up. I'm afraid if I watch it any longer, it will just die before my eyes. So, instead of jumpstarting it for the third time, and after much consideration and discussion, I've been thinking: what is the public opinion of moving the wiki? Brickipedia is doing it, and there's a good chance our partner LMBW will be following suit. We'd be moving it off of Wikia completely, and onto a new (currently developmental) site called Brickimedia.
What can you expect from this move? Well, to start, you'd all need new accounts. We'd be able to transfer your edits and what-not, so that's one less thing to worry about. What would happen to all the pages? They'd all move as well, history and all, so you don't have to worry about losing content. The purpose of this move would be to consolidate and expand outwards. Aligning ourselves with Brickimedia would help with our community, and it'd also mean that the wiki would have way fewer ads. It means greater design control, and the ability to do almost anything with the wiki, including installing new extensions like page ratings, creating a new badge system, and so on and so forth. Just think of something like, your ideas directly influence what appears on the wiki. We'd also not have to comply to Wikia policies. What would happen to this wiki? Likely, it would stay here, and be starved if everyone moves. Eventually, if everyone moves, it may be closed.
I'd also like to note that if we did move, we'd be merging with our partner, the Ninjago Stories Wiki, to create stories.brickimedia.org. I will set up a very fine distinction between the two different types of stories, and if the differences are clearly defined enough, we may expand to hosting other fanfics, possibly from LEGO Star Wars, Chima, and many other themes. This also would help us grow outward. Please do not be concerned about LU Stories losing their significance. I was an LU player, and they will always mean something special to me; of all the LEGO fanfics, the LU ones are forever and always on the top of the pack.
To close this post, I'd like to make a point about the difference between growing outward and growing upward. We have a very tall wiki. It has few pages with high-quality content, a decent skin, well-defined policies, and a small but established community. Wide wikis would be wikis with many, many pages, but little content, and a large community; think "jack-of-all-trades-but-master-of-none". We are a very specialist wiki, and can afford to grow outward (widen). Due to some of the restrictions of sitting in Wikia's shadow, I believe that our ability to widen is limited. Also, a semi-fresh start just could be the best thing possible for jumpstarting this wiki. For those who have been around this wiki from the start, think glory days again. And if you all are in, I am sure as heck gonna make sure it happens.
